Stem cell drug screen yields potential alternative to statins Cardiac glycosides reduce a precursor of LDL cholesterol in a drug screen of statin-resistant hypercholesterolemia, new research concludes. A large meta-analysis of medical records revealed that patients taking glycosides for heart failure had reductions in LDL cholesterol similar to patients taking statins. Cardiac glycosides are a potential treatment for patients with high cholesterol who don’t respond to statins.
